Does Gender Diversity exist in your workplace?

Gender Diversity is a challenge that faces all of us in our organisations, our communities and in Rotary. Recent statistics from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency of the Australian Government highlights that Women comprise 45.8% of all employees in Australia. As a proportion of all employees, 24.7% are women working full time and 21.1% are women working part time.

Other stats include:

Women in the workforce

  • Average superannuation balances for women are 45.7% less than those for men
  • Annualised full-time earnings for women are on average 18.2% less than for men
  • The labour force participation rate for women is 58.5%, compared to 70.8% for men
  • Flexible work arrangements benefit both men and women - one study found 37% of young fathers reported a lack of flexibility as the prime reason they had seriously considered leaving their organisation in the previous six months, and another reported that women with high levels of job flexibility were significantly more productive than women with low levels flexibility, wasting about a third less of their day.

Women in leadership

  • Less than 20% of directors in the ASX 200 are women, and 17% of ASX 200 companies do not have a woman on their board
  • Global research has shown links between board and executive gender diversity and improved company performance.

Is Gender diversity on your mind at your organisation? This coming March, Women in Rotary, an initiative of the Rotary Club of Albert Park and many other Rotary clubs around the world will host breakfasts to help celebrate International Women’s Day and recognise the untapped opportunities that remain for those who act.

Stay tuned to the Women in Rotary website for upcoming details. Bookings for the Melbourne breakfast NOW OPEN
