Celebrating Women on the Coast
IWD EXPO 2015 – We made it Happen!
Over 2000 people attended the International Women’s Day EXPO on Saturday 7 March at Central Coast Campus of the University of Newcastle. Initiated and coordinated by Rotary Clubs on the Central Coast NSW, the EXPO brought together seven prominent local women’s groups to lead a celebration for IWD. We did it in style. A Cocktail Party on Thursday 5th was organized by CC Business Women Connect and opened by DGE Gina Growden. The EXPO on Saturday 7 day closed with an insightful Political Forum on women’s issues. We also produced a calendar of many IWD events on the CC.
Women, men and children from all sectors of our community joined together on Saturday to enjoy an extensive program of first class seminars, entertainment, activities and over 70 stalls and food outlets. We generated enormous strength working together and sharing knowledge and skills.
The Rotary Foundation Areas of Focus (UN millennium goals) provided the structure for the day. Stalls featured many local and international programs related to Peace and Conflict Resolution Wow Girls), Water and Sanitation (Lions International), Business and Community Development (Business Women Connect), Maternal and Child Health (Zonta), Disease Prevention and Treatment (Central Coast Women’s Health), Basic Education and Literacy (Soroptomist International). Young Leaders (Rotary International) was added as a seventh category. The Youth Programs of Rotary were featured along with many other Rotary programs in the stalls and seminars.
The combined committee (CCiwdCC) was chaired by AG PP Liz North (Rotary Club of Wyong-Tuggerah).
