Women in Rotary, International Women's Day Breakfast
I wish everyone at Women in Rotary’s breakfast this morning a very happy International Women’s Day.
I firmly believe that we should make every single day of the year one in which we encourage the full participation of women in the social, economic and cultural life of the nation.
On International Women’s Day, the world focuses on this vital task, as we also recognise the importance of the contribution of women right across the world.
We also look to areas where we have much work to do – in protecting women against family violence and in having the right to equal pay and equality of opportunity.
My vision for Australian women is that we contribute equally and fully to all aspects of society, including the new economy. Our nation will be better for it.
Women in Rotary is a perfect example of the ways in which all organisations benefit from the inclusion of women.
By attracting more women in recent years, Rotary has improved because it reflects the community better and has access to all the ideas, ingenuity and energy of women.
Events like Women in Rotary’s breakfast are important contributions toward achieving equality because they help us remember why equality is important as well as how it can be achieved.
I hope you all have an enjoyable and informative morning and come away more inspired than ever to do your part.
